1817585 Information About Adel, Oregon

Adel is an unincorporated community in southeastern Lake County, Oregon, United States. It consists largely of a cafe and gas station, amid a community of loosely scattered ranches. The community is in one of the most remote parts of Oregon, on Oregon Route 140, approximately 30 miles (32 km) east of Lakeview. The Adel post office was established in 1896, and was either named for a former sweetheart of the owner of the land on which it was established, or for a local cow, Leda, but with the spelling reversed.[1]Some residents also suggest the town name is derived from the word "dell" meaning a remote valley.[citation needed]The community was largely settled by Irish Catholics from County Cork whose livelihoods were sustained by sheep, cattle, and wheat production. The Irish brought to Warner Valley a passion for music and dance. Crump Lake, immediately north of Adel, is named after Charlie Crump who played the drums late into the night—and late into his life—at many community dances. Crump's property also featured Crump Geyser, which once erupted with a force and frequency to rival Yellowstone National Park's Old Faithful. The geyser's strength waned over a period of decades as visitors, hoping to trigger an eruption, gradually filled the geyser well with tossed pebbles and stones. Rattlesnakes, mule deer, pronghorn, scorpions, jackrabbits, and magpies share the valley with—and still outnumber—the human occupants. The community is located in the southern reaches of semi-arid Warner Valley. Basalt pillars overlaying layers of fossiliferous limestone characterize the valley walls. The valley floor features scattered fresh and alkali lakes, wetlands, streams, sage/grass/juniper graze, and irrigated agricultural fields. The region is moderately geologically active with a retired geyser and several hot springs. Evidence of Native American culture and occupation is apparent in numerous petroglyphs, arrowheads, and other material artifacts.

1817581 Information About Nut_Tree_Restaurant

Nut Tree is a mixed-use development in Vacaville, California near the intersection of Interstate 80 and Interstate 505. It opened in 1921 on old U.S. Route 40. It was created by Helen and Ed "Bunny" Power as a small roadside fruit stand, and built near the site of Helen's childhood home (dating from 1907), which she and her husband purchased from her parents not long after their 1921 marriage. The Nut Tree grew as US 40 became Interstate 80. At its peak, it contained a restaurant, an outdoor eatery, a bakery, a gift shop, a toy shop, the Nut Tree Railroad that gave rides from the toy shop to the airport, and an airport, which is now owned and operated by Solano County. It was a welcome rest stop on the road between Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. Throughout the year, kids enjoyed giant frosted honey cookies (names added on request), the numerous "Hobby Horses" rocking horses and riding the train. It welcomed several celebrities, including Ronald Reagan when he became California governor in 1967, Richard Nixon, Queen Elizabeth II [1], Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby, among others. For several years during October the Nut Tree was home to the Pumpkin Patch. Pumpkin Patch attractions included a scarecrow contest, a display of giant pumpkins and pumpkin carving contests. The Nut Tree Restaurant was an early pioneer of California cuisine, with fresh fruits and vegetables featured in the recipes. By 1978, it was identified as "the region's most characteristic and influential restaurant."[2] It also featured small loaves of wheat and rye bread, cooked fresh each day on the premises. A notable feature of the restaurant was its large indoor aviary, which had glass walls extending from floor to ceiling. Nut Tree knives and cutting boards, as well as books on aviation, were sold in the gift shop. A recipe book was printed by the Vacaville Museum in 1997 and sold till 2009.

1817578 Information About Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah

Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah (1956-1992)(Bangla: রুদ্র মোহাম্মদ শহীদুল্লাহ্) was a Bangladeshi poet. Shahidullah was noted for his revolutionary and romantic poetry. In the popular culture of Bangladesh, Shahidullah's most well known contribution is the song Bhalo Achi Bhalo Theko, popular ever since it was written. In 1991, an annual fair called Rudra Mela was started to commemorate the poet.Poet Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah was the husband of writer Taslima Nasrin. He died as a result of drug abuse. His notable song amar bhitor o bahire is regarded by some people as a suicide note to Taslima Nasrin. The works of this brilliant poet were popularized later by legendary singer-songwriter of India Kabir Suman and famous Bangladeshi singer Sabina Yasmin. As once famously stated by Kabir Suman, the song Amar bhitor o bahire became a national anthem for the Bengalis of both Bangladesh and West Bengal. The longing embedded in the lyrics add to the poignancy of the piece.

1817577 Information About Royal_Navy_helicopter

The Fleet Air Arm (FAA) is the branch of the British Royal Navy responsible for the operation of aircraft. The Fleet Air Arm operates the AgustaWestland Merlin, Westland Sea King and Westland Lynx helicopters, as well as the Harrier GR7/GR9. Helicopters such as the Lynx and Westland Wasp have been deployed on smaller vessels since 1964, taking over the roles once performed by biplanes such as the Fairey Swordfish.British naval flying started in 1909, with the construction of an airship for naval duties.[2] In 1911 the Royal Navy graduated its first aeroplane pilots, but in May 1912 naval and army aviation were combined to become the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). The Naval Wing of the RFC lasted until July 1914 when the Royal Navy reformed its air branch, under the Air Department of the Admiralty[citation needed], naming it the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS).[3]By the outbreak of the First World War, in August 1914, the RNAS had more aircraft under its control than the remaining RFC.[citation needed] The main roles of the RNAS were fleet reconnaissance, patrolling coasts for enemy ships and submarines, attacking enemy coastal territory and defending Britain from enemy air-raids, along with deployment along the Western Front. In April 1918 the RNAS, which at this time had 67,000 officers and men, 2,949 aircraft, 103 airships and 126 coastal stations, merged with the RFC to form the Royal Air Force. On 1 April 1924, the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Air Force was formed, encompassing those RAF units that normally embarked on aircraft carriers and fighting ships.[4] On 24 May 1939 the Fleet Air Arm was returned to Admiralty control[5] under the Inskip Award and renamed the Air Branch of the Royal Navy. At the onset of the Second World War, the Fleet Air Arm consisted of 20 squadrons with only 232 aircraft. By the end of the war the worldwide strength of the Fleet Air Arm was 59 aircraft carriers, 3,700 aircraft, 72,000 officers and men, and 56 air stations. The aircraft carrier had replaced the battleship as the Fleet's capital ship and its aircraft were now strike weapons in their own right. After the war the FAA needed to fly jet aircraft from their carriers. The jet aircraft of the era were considerably less effective at low speeds than propeller aircraft, but propeller aircraft could not effectively fight jets at the high speeds flown by jet aircraft. The FAA took on its first jet, the Sea Vampire, in the late 1940s. The Sea Vampire was the first jet credited with taking off and landing on a carrier. The Air Arm continued with high-powered prop aircraft alongside the new jets resulting in the FAA being woefully outpowered during the Korean War. Nevertheless, jets were not yet wholly superior to propeller aircraft and a flight of ground-attack Hawker Sea Furies downed a MiG-15 and damaged others in an engagement.

1817573 Information About Foxwhelp

The Foxwhelp is a very old cider apple cultivar, originating in the west Midlands of England. This is one of the oldest surviving varieties of cider apple; it is first mentioned in John Evelyn's Advertisements Concerning Cider in his work Pomona of 1664, in which it is commented that "cider for strength [...] is best made of the Fox-whelp of the Forest of Dean, but which comes not to be drunk until two or three years old".[1] It is usually said to have originated in Gloucestershire or Herefordshire. By the early eighteenth century, it had become one of the most prized cultivars for cider: a letter written by a Hugh Stafford in 1727 states "I have been told by a person of credit that a hogshead of cider from this fruit has been sold in London for £8 or eight guineas, and that often a hogshead of French wine has been given in exchange for the same quantity of Fox-whelp. It is said to contain a richer and more cordial juice than even the Red-streak itself".[2]Along with many other old varieties of apple, the Foxwhelp is now rare. Some sources state that apples identified as Foxwhelp today are not, in fact, the original variety, which came to be known as "Old Foxwhelp" to distinguish it from later sports (such as "Improved Foxwhelp", developed by H. P. Bulmer), which were selected from the original cultivar. By the 1960s the Long Ashton Research Station could locate only "a few very old trees" of Old Foxwhelp in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.[3]The Foxwhelp is classed as a "bittersharp" cider apple, containing high levels of tannin and malic acid. It has small to medium-sized fruit, usually ripening in September, with an uneven, ridged shape, and a deep crimson skin with yellow stripes. Its flesh is acidic and yellow with a red tinge. The Foxwhelp is prone to the disease apple scab.

1817570 Information About Pennsylvania_Railroad_Company

The Pennsylvania Railroad (reporting mark PRR) was an American railroad, founded in 1846. Commonly referred to as the "Pennsy", the PRR was headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The PRR was the largest railroad by traffic and revenue in the U.S. throughout the first two-thirds of the twentieth century and was at one time the largest publicly traded corporation in the world. At its peak, it controlled about 10,000 miles (16,000 km) of rail line. During its history, the PRR merged with or had an interest in at least 800 other rail lines and companies.[1] The corporation still holds the record for the longest continuous dividend history: it paid out annual dividends to shareholders for more than 100 years in a row.[2] At one point the budget for the PRR was larger than that of the U.S. government; at its peak it employed about 250,000 workers.[3]In 1968, the Pennsylvania Railroad merged with its rival, the New York Central Railroad, to form the Penn Central Transportation Company. The Interstate Commerce Commission required that the ailing New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad be added in 1969. A series of events including inflation, poor management, abnormally harsh weather and the withdrawal of a government-guaranteed $200-million operating loan forced the Penn Central to file for bankruptcy protection on June 21, 1970.[4] The viable parts of the Penn Central system were transferred in 1976 to Conrail, which began earning a profit in 1981. The Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation split Conrail in approximately equal portions in 1999, with Norfolk Southern now owning most of the former Pennsylvania Railroad, including the old Pennsy Main Line across Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Railroad's corporate symbol was the keystone, which is Pennsylvania's state symbol, with the letters PRR intertwined inside. When colored, it was bright red with a silver-grey inline and lettering. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as part of the Main Line of Public Works, chartered the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1846 to build a rail line that would connect Harrisburg to Pittsburgh.[5] This western line from Harrisburg would complete the main line, which was to be a railroad and canal corridor across the state. With capital provided in part by the municipal government of Philadelphia, work on the western part of the main line was completed in 1854, and rail service from Philadelphia across the state to Pittsburgh was available. In 1857, the PRR purchased the main line from the State of Pennsylvania. This line is still an important cross-state corridor, carrying Amtrak's Philadelphia to Harrisburg Main Line and the Norfolk Southern Railway's Pittsburgh Subdivision.
